The Ulster Wildlife Trust currently offers several curriculum based wildlife education & awareness programmes for schools, youth clubs, after-school and play groups. The Ulster Wildlife Trust’s education programmes are tools for inspiring and empowering young people to take positive action for their local and global environment and to recognise their responsibilities as the future caretakers of our planet. We strongly believe that getting outdoors is the best way to teach many of the educational and emotional needs of our children.
Making It Real at our Education & Awareness Sites!
Take a visit to one of our on-site facilities where we have a number of engaging and inspirational programmes available for you to choose from to bring nature to life. We cater for a wide range of needs and abilities such as early years, primary and secondary schools, special needs, youth groups, summer schemes, adult interest groups and families. Each site has a different focus but all give you a great day out!
Bog Meadows Nature Reserve – Belfast
Theme – Urban green space for people and wildlife
Situated in the heart of Belfast, Bog Meadows Nature Reserve is an oasis of grassland and wetland in the city.
KS2 & 3 school programmes have been specially designed to highlight the valuable contribution this site makes for its resident and migrant species.
The effects of pollution and development can be investigated through hands-on activities and interactive workshops.
ECOS Millennium Environmental Centre, Ballymena
Theme – Sustainable development encompassing biodiversity conservation, renewable energy, recycling and pollution.
This Environmental Interpretative Centre and nature reserve at Ecos is designed to increase awareness of issues affecting the world. With climate change, sustainable development and global citizenship so highly profiled today – this centre is the ideal setting for a day out that could change how you live the rest of your life!
Our education staff will help you explore and learn from the interactive displays and wildlife habitats, helping the group take away knowledge of how they can make a different to the environment through their lifestyle choices. Tailored programmes are available for schools and groups.
Reaching Out
If you can’t make it one of our sites then why not consider one of our Outreach Programmes. Our skilled education staff will visit your group at your location and will deliver activities that best suit your needs.
We offer specially designed workshops tailored to a number of themes for schools/youth/community groups to choose from, examples include -

Programme Costs:
At One of Our Education Sites
£2 - £3.50 per person (Rate depends on the length of your visit)
If We Visit You
£25 per hour for each UWT Staff member required, plus mileage (40p a mile)
