Though originally landscaped, the lake and woodland have been reclaimed by nature and provide a great variety of wildlife habitats in a relatively small area. Interesting species include white-clawed crayfish, smooth newt, unusual pondweeds, a rare milkwort fungus, and the lakeshore fen harbours a great variety of plant and insect life.
Access: This nature reserve is open to the public. UWT members have access to the whole reserve, while members of the public are allowed in the woodlands to the south of Lough Fadda. Access is via an informal path leading from the village, through the woods, and along the southern shore of Lough Fadda. There may be cattle grazing part of the site so do take care.
Getting there: Take the B122 north out of Fivemiletown and turn right after 0.5 miles at the gatehouse into the estate.
Look out for: marsh marigold, purple loosestrife, brown hawker dragonfly, reed bunting, grasshopper warbler
